Christopher Michael Pratt is an American actor and producer who was born on June 21, 1979. After being seen by actor and director Rae Dawn Chong, Chris Pratt went on to have a prosperous TV career, appearing in shows including Parks and Recreation, The O.C., and Everwood. His role as Andy Dwyer in the NBC series Parks and Recreation brought him fame from 2009 until 2015.

Prior to finding fame as the main actor in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World franchises, he also dabbled on the big screen, landing supporting parts in Wanted, Moneyball, and Zero Dark Thirty, Jennifer’s Body (2009), and Her (2013). He also starred in the WB drama series Everwood from 2002 to 2006.

Early Life

On June 21, 1979, Christopher Michael Pratt was born in Virginia, Minnesota. His father was a miner who eventually worked in home remodelling, while his mother was employed at a Safeway grocery. In 2014, Pratt’s father passed away due to multiple sclerosis. His mother comes from Norway. The Pratt family relocated to Lake Stevens, Washington, when Pratt was seven years old.

In a state wrestling competition for high schools, Pratt finished sixth. He competed in track and field at his high school as a shot putter. He subsequently recounted saying, “I don’t know, but I know I’ll be famous,” in response to his wrestling coach’s question about what he wanted to accomplish with his life.

In 1997, he received his diploma from Lake Stevens High School. After working as a daytime stripper and a bargain ticket salesman, Pratt left his community college midway through the first semester and became homeless in Maui, Hawaii, residing in a van and a tent on the beach.  He was employed by the Christian missionary group Jews for Jesus when he was on Maui.

Early Career in Cursed Part 3, Wanted and Parks and Recreation

Rae Dawn Chong, an actor and filmmaker, found Pratt when he was nineteen years old, working as a waiter at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in Maui. She chose to cast him in her first directing role, Cursed Part 3, a short horror film shot in Los Angeles. Harold Brighton “Bright” Abbott was Pratt’s first regular television character on the show Everwood.

Following Everwood’s termination, he became a member of The O.C.’s fourth season ensemble, portraying activist Winchester “Ché” Cook. In the 2008 action movie Wanted, he also made an appearance, when James McAvoy struck him with a keyboard.

Pratt joined the NBC comedy series Parks and Recreation in 2009 as Andy Dwyer. Producers requested that Pratt become a series regular after seeing him in a brief role that was initially intended to be transitory. This turned out to be his big breakthrough.

‘Moneyball’ and ‘Zero Thirty’

In the 2011 movie Moneyball, Pratt played Oakland Athletics first baseman/catcher Scott Hatteberg. Initially, Pratt was advised that he was too overweight to portray Hatteberg because he had gained forty pounds (18 kg), which he blamed to the food that actress Anna Faris, his former girlfriend, had prepared.

After making the decision to reduce his weight, he worked out nonstop and kept checking to see if the role was cast. In all, he lost thirty pounds (14 kg). He sent a picture of himself to the casting director when he decided he had had enough and got the part. Pratt’s roles in Moneyball were stereotyped as being young and immature before to their premiere.

He put on the weight he had lost to play a Navy SEAL in the movie Zero Dark Thirty (2012), but then put it back on to act in the movie 10 Years (2011). In December 2013, he portrayed Joaquin Phoenix’s coworker in Spike Jonze’s science fiction romance film Her.

Guardians of the Galaxy

2014 turned out to be a spectacular year following minor parts in 2013 such as Delivery Man and Her. In The Magnificent Seven, a cinematic adaptation of the 1960 Western of the same name, he featured with Denzel Washington as gambler Josh Faraday. On September 23, 2016, the movie was released. Passengers, Pratt’s second 2016 release, is a science fiction movie that debuted in December and co-stars Jennifer Lawrence.

Pratt portrayed mechanic Jim Preston, who is ready to leave Earth since it doesn’t appear to appreciate a man who works with his hands. Pratt narrated Disney’s Candlelight Processional at Disneyland as a guest in 2018.

Recent Reprisals and Roles

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which was released in May 2017, saw Pratt return to the character of Peter Quill/Star-Lord. The main plot point of the movie is Quill’s and his group’s hunt for his father. Additionally, Pratt played the same role in the April 2018 release of Avengers: Infinity War and the April 26, 2019 release of Avengers: Endgame.

Furthermore, Pratt returned to voice Emmet in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, costarring alongside Rex Dangervest. It was revealed in August 2017 that Pratt would be starring in the western drama The Kid.

Alongside Tom Holland, his co-star in Avengers, Pratt voiced the primary character in the Disney/Pixar animated feature film Onward, which released in March 2020. A new album centred on Pratt’s character Andy Dwyer is set to be released in May 2021, according to an announcement made by Pratt and Parks and Recreation.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is based on the same-named video game franchise, was revealed in September 2021. Pratt was cast as the Nintendo mascot Mario, and while his performance as Mario drew criticism at first, he was praised after the movie’s premiere.

Pratt established Indivisible Productions, a production firm, in February 2020. On July 1, 2022, Pratt, who acts in and executive produces The Terminal List, the company’s debut film, was made available on Amazon Prime Video.

The news broke in November 2021 that he would be providing the voice of the lead character in Mark Dindal’s forthcoming animated picture, The Garfield Movie, which is based on a screenplay by David Reynolds. He and Millie Bobby Brown were confirmed to feature in The Electric State in June 2022.

In an interview with 2022 Men’s Health, Pratt brought up the topic in relation to his acceptance speech for MTV’s Generation Award, when he emphasized to young people that they are loved by God. He went on to say that although he was never a member of Hillsong, he still firmly believed in God and preferred not to “throw a church under the bus” at the moment.
